Daet is a 1st class municipality in the province of Camarines Norte, Philippines. It is the capital municipality of Camarines Norte. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 80,632 people in 16,267 households. The current mayor of Daet is Tito Sarte Sarion. Daet will soon to be the 8th city in Bicol Region.

The municipality is a popular surfing spot among surfers worldwide. Aside from that, it is home to a virgin group of islands, the Calaguas.

Surfing and Beaches

Daet is a famous surfing spot among surfers worldwide especially its long stretch of beach in Bagasbas. Because of the attention it has gotten from the international surfing community, the Philippine Department of Tourism turned it into an internationally-accredited surfing spot. [1]

Aside from being a surfing spot, the Calaguas group of islands to its north has garnered attention from local and foreign tourists alike. The islands can be considered virgin since no resorts have been created there yet.

Daet festival

On January 22, 2008, filmmaker Nick Deocampo, Director of the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund) announced the holding of a Ricardo Lee Film Festival from February 4 to 10, 2008 - the World Arts Festival under Mayor Tito Sarion, in Daet, Camarines Norte. Lee’s scripts became Philippine cinema classics of Philippine cinema, which made the 2nd golden age of 1980 Filipino movies. 5 films will be shown in the festival: Gina Alajar's "Salome," "Anak," "Muro Ami," "Gumapang Ka sa Lusak", and "Memories of Old Manila".[1]
