Lizzy Borden is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1983. Lizzy Borden is also the name of the band's lead vocalist.
HistoryFormationBorden specialized in the shock rock style originated by artists such as Alice Cooper and KISS. The band is named after the notorious Lizzie Borden, a woman accused and acquitted of murder in the late 19th century. Early yearsThough Lizzy Borden was considered a part of the Los Angeles "glam metal" scene in the mid-1980s, they were more musically influenced by bands such as Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, KISS, Alice Cooper, and Judas Priest. Their lyrical themes are also more representative of this style, especially on earlier recordings. Commercial successThe band was featured prominently in the rockumentary The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years. Onetime Lizzy Borden guitarist Joe Holmes also played with David Lee Roth and Ozzy Osbourne, and Swedish-born bassist Marten Andersson has also toured and recorded with Lynch Mob and Legacy. The band experienced considerable success throughout the later part of the 1980s, in spite of several lineup changes. Later yearsIn 2003–2004, several members of Lizzy Borden, including Lizzy Borden, bassist Marten Andersson, and drummer Joey Scott Harges went on to form a new side-project, Starwood, that represents a departure from their original heavy metal sound. The band, considered by some to just be a more modern-version of Lizzy Borden, released their debut album If It Ain't Broke, Break It! on Metal Blade Records in 2004. The band did a series of concerts and are said to be working on a followup album. On May 17, 2004, former guitarist Alex Nelson was killed in a head-on collision. Lizzy Borden disbanded soon after. Recent eventsIn 2006, Lizzy Borden reformed with new guitarist Ira Black. On November 1, 2007, the album Appointment with Death was released worldwide, their first with new guitarist Ira Black. The album also features guest appearances by George Lynch (Dokken/Lynch Mob), Dave Meniketti (Y&T), and Corey Beaulieu (Trivium), among many others. In early 2008, the band announced various festival appearances, including the Sweden Rock Festival in Sweden, and the Bang Your Head Festival in Germany. In July 2008, Lizzy Borden announced their confirmation as the first-day headliner of the two-day Keep It True XII Festival, set to take place April 24–April 25, 2009, at Tauberfrankenhalle in Lauda-Königshofen, Germany.
