WEBX is a commercial radio station in Tuscola, Illinois, broadcasting to the Champaign, Illinois area on 93.5 FM.

WEBX airs a modern rock music format branded as "93-5 The Source".

History

The station was originally formed by Rollings Communications in 1993 with the call-letters WUBB (Bubba Country 93.5 FM). It was a satellite programmed radio station with one live show. The live show was a Sunday Night Old-Time Country show hosted by a local man, nicknamed "The Old-Timer".

In circa late 1994/early 1995, the station switch from its country format to a talk radio format. The syndicated shows consisted of the Rush Limbaugh show, Alan Colmes show, Tom Leykis, and so on.

Magnitude of Tuscola, LLC. purchased the station and switched the call letters to WEBX in 1996. "The Web," as the station was called, became an adult alternative format. "The Web" was the first terrestrial radio station to stream on the internet.

In 1999, WEBX was purchased by Liberty Radio II. The adult alternative format was dropped for a younger leaning active rock format. "93X X-Treme Radio" was launched in August of 1999.

Liberty Radio II and it's four stations, WEBX, WBNB, WQQB and WGKC were sold to AAA Entertainment, LLC. in March of 2000. On January 1st, 2002, 93X and it's sister station, "Big Country B95", were flipped to create an active rock simulcast known as "93-5/95-3 The Rock." The Rock continued to carry Mancow's Morning Madhouse, which was initially launched in September of 2000 on 93X.

AAA Entertainment sold it's four Champaign stations in 2006 to RadioStar, Inc. and Jim Glassman, one of the principals of Liberty Radio II. In September of 2007 the simulcast was dropped. The Rock continued to broadcast on WEBX, while the other half of the simulcast on 95.3 became a "classic top 40" format.

At 9:35AM on June 2, 2008, WEBX became known as "C-U's Original Classic Alternative 93-5 The Source." The Source focuses on alternative music from the '70's, '80's, '90's and now, with the majority of the music coming from the '90's. The Source is the home of Nina Blackwood's New Wave Nation and Out of Order with Jed The Fish on the weekends.
