WFXV is the Fox affiliate for Utica, New York. It is owned by Nexstar Broadcasting Group (along with WPNY-LP and Mission Broadcasting's WUTR), and broadcasts on UHF channel 33, with a digital signal on channel 27. WFXV's transmitter is located in Clinton, New York.
HistoryWFXV signed on in 1986 as WTUV[1]. The station eventually became a Fox affiliate, and in 1990 the call sign was changed to WFXV. WFXV's studios were originally located on Greenfield Road in Rome, NY. The building also eventually became home to WUPN-LP, a UPN Network affiliate, which was later renamed WPNY-LP. WFXV was acquired by Nexstar Broadcasting Group in 2003, when it purchased then-owners Quorum Broadcasting. Shortly thereafter, WFXV and WPNY moved into the studios of sister-station WUTR, atop Smith Hill in Utica. For a short time, WKTV produced a 10:00pm newscast for WFXV, called NewsChannel 2 on FOX. The newscast was supposed to originate live from WKTV's Utica studios, but problems beaming the show to Rome via microwave sometimes required WKTV to pre-record the newscast, and physically deliver the videotape to WFXV (a 30-minute drive) every night. When the contract ended, WFXV decided not to renew, and NewsChannel 2 on FOX was cancelled. ProgrammingWFXV's programming primarily consists of Fox network and syndicated programming. WFXV used to air the Bill Keeler Show, a local late-night comedy series, until 2005, when the series moved to WKTV. External linksReferences
