WJFF is a public radio station broadcasting at 90.5 MHz FM. It is located in Jeffersonville, New York , and is perhaps the nation's only hydropowered radio station. It draws the power for its studios and offices from a dam 50 feet away adjacent to Lake Jefferson .[citation needed ] It first went on the air on February 12, 1990 as a result of grassroots community efforts.[citation needed ]
The station features a variety of classical music , jazz , public affairs and news programming during the day, with locally produced programs in the early afternoons and evenings. Its schedule maintains a balance between eclectic community radio and NPR affiliate programming, with a smattering of shows from Pacifica Radio , the BBC and the CBC . BBC programming is now broadcast in the early morning hours, if there is no local programming on air at the time.
Translators
In addition to the main station, WJFF is relayed by an additional translator to widen it's broadcast area.
