WMBG (740 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Nostalgia format. Licensed to Williamsburg, Virginia, USA, it serves the Hampton Roads area. The station is currently owned by Williamsburg's Radio Station. Much of the programming is featured from Jones Radio Networks' "Jones Standards", which will soon cease operations by September 30, 2008. It is unknown what affiliation WMBG will be switching to by that day.

History

The station was originally WBCI-AM with a middle of the road format in the 1960s, but became WMBG-AM with a Top 40 format in the 1970s. By 1980, the station was simulcasting an adult comtemporary format with the former FM sister station at 96.5 , WBCI-AM .

On March 1, 1985, the station call letters were changed to WQSF-AM and the station went into a simulcast of its sister station, now WQSF-FM,and it's new beautiful music format.

The station was later sold and it's calls reverted back to WMBG-AM and the station adopted nostalgia format.

The WMBG call letters had previously been on the 1380 frequency in Richmond from the 1930a until 1965. When they were on 1380, they stood for "Magentos , Batteries, and Generators".

Terry Young, who is now on XM Radio's "60s at 6" channel, had an uncle who ran the station in the 1970s, and worked there for a short time during their seventies Top 40 era .
