The 2.5 millionth article on the English edition of Wikipedia is created. While no attempt was made to officially identify the 2.5 millionth article, Joe Connor has been suggested as the possible article.

WikiProject Lakes reached 5,000 articles with infobox lake. 2700 of those still need illustrations.

5 July 2008

WikiProject Mountains passed 5,000 articles in the last two weeks and reached 5,500 articles with Infobox Mountain.

Wikipedia's daily Alexa ranking hit 10 again today. Of the total traffic to all Wikipedia sites, the share attributable to en: has now fallen to 54%, demonstrating the rapid growth of the many other Wikipedia language editions, while growth in en: continues unchecked.

Wikipedia entered 2007 with over 6 million articles in 251 languages, 1560143 of them in English. During 2006, the English Wikipedia contributed 666,906 of the almost 3 million new articles project-wide, which almost doubled in 12 months. Full statistics are now available.

Wikipedia's Alexa 3-monthly average traffic rank hit a new high of 12, hitting daily rank of 10 twice during December.
