WTZR-FM / Z Rock 99-3 is one of two Tri-Cities, Tennessee area modern rock radio stations. Z Rock made it's debut in 2003. Before that, WTZR was an Urban Oldies station. The station is owned by Bristol Broadcasting Company, with a "twin station" in Dunbar, West Virginia named "Z Rock-94-5". According to Bristol Broadcasting, the station posts strong numbers with 18 to 34 year old men. WTZR is now on top of WRZK-FM, (K-Rock 95.9) in the Tri-Cities Arbitron ratings.

History

The station was known as "Electric 99.3" until 2000, when a format swap sent that format to WAEZ-FM. After that, they were adult contemporary as "MIX 99.3" until 2001. The station flipped to rhythmic oldies as WPJO-FM, a format that lasted until 2003. In the late 80's and into the 90's the 99.3 frequency was WUSJ-FM...Country Formatted US99.
